Build a smart home that still makes sense after the next platform update
Smart Home Basics combines two older smart-home sites into one compatibility-first guide. Understand the ecosystem, network, controller and automation layers before you buy devices—and keep manual fallback, privacy and long-term support in the plan.

Two sites consolidated
Comparison intent without the repetitive “best device this year” churn
The old Smart Home Basics database contained 132 published posts and the old Smart Home Compare archive contained 100 blog articles. Both repeated hubs, assistants, sensors, bulbs, plugs, routines, energy, security and troubleshooting. The rebuilt site keeps those useful questions but organizes them around compatibility, architecture, reliability, privacy and lifecycle rather than manufacturing dozens of near-duplicate rankings.
